This will be my final post before I fly to New Zealand for Linux Conference Au. I will be back in Sydney at the start of Feb though. I plan on bringing my painting gear to New Zealand, so will likely do an update or two.
I have not been drawing people on redditgetsdrawn but I have been drawing random landscape. This is the results.
I was quite excited to find out that a bunch of work entered the public domain on 1st Jan 2019. One of the items - a Charles Chaplin film. This was drawn as I watched the film. Got to love public domain!
A character standing on a plank in a landscape. Ripple affects below and to the right. Behind circles.
Filling in the center area with scribbles. A fork pieces the ocean.
Family terms. Character in color to the left.
I’ve been enjoying making these large curve shapes. They are very satisfying.
Two pens with clouds and spiky landscape surrounding.
Rewatching 12 monkeys. I have no idea how many times I have watched this show. It’s so good.

I hope you have had a good start to the New Year. I’m on a roll with a second post for the new year - and publish of artwork created in 2019. This is a mixture of software ideas (bubble tea order system, language learning quiz system) and the usual landscapes.
There isn’t much in terms of ordering bubble tea through digital means so I thought I would work on a system for it. These are sketch ideas for it.
circlefigure landscape
crazyeyes. One looking down and one looking up. I have new glasses so won’t be getting as much headaches and issues seeing now.
language learning quiz. I’ve been using quite a few apps and some have great ideas, some not so good. I’d like to take some of those good ideas and build an app to help people learn new languages.
RedditGetsDrawn - liamfuture. I made a request to get unbanned from RedditGetsDrawn and it’s been accepted. Nice.
Pepper and Carrot drawing. But this time it is just Carrot who is looking very angry.
Portable Pi Workstation. One idea would be to package my setup and encourage others to buy the setup - skim a fee off the top.

Happy New Year! It’s 2019. To celebrate the new year I have moved the blog to a new server (it is still DigitalOcean). I have also upgraded the version of Nikola to v8 and fixed all the old blog wordpress posts that were still directing images to artcontrol.me rather than the local directory. I was experiencing lots of lag on the old server so hopefully this new one is better. I still would like to look at moving the site to aws s3 or google cloud in the future.
Here some art from the end of 2018:
A random couple on RGD. I didn’t write down their name and can’t find it now. Oh well.
A character with a landscape. The character has an interesting shaped head.
Another work that I drew from RGD.
A landscape
A drawing of mesanthrope from RGD. I liked her circle glasses and the turn of the head.
A drawing of socooooooooool from RGD. I liked how her hands are folded and the peacefulness of the scene.
A drawing of SquareCircleHills. It’s a landscape.
A drawing of YiyiChu from RGD.

I’ve been drawing a few portraits from RedditGetsDrawn and of real life friends. There is also the usual imagination landscape and creature works.
Oliveap1 from RedditGetsDrawn. I choose to draw this as it was a full figure. I didn’t scale it correctly so reduced the size of the image as I went. I have been working with the toolbar on the left side. It’s better as it gives me easy access to other tools (no external keyboard).
Jack. I meet him at Hackathons and he’s great for UX and pitching.

I signed up to an account on Liberapay and decided to redraw the logo that I may add to the site for a link. I don’t have a side bar though, so unsure where I would put it. Perhaps a support page with links to referal kind of stuff.

I went on a date and took my digital artwork pi workstation with me. At the bar I got it out and did some collaborate drawing with Carrie.
This is the results along with a few other bonus.
An anime character I was drawing from my phone.
A portrait of Carrie that I drew.
Cocktail glasses that Carrie drew well I was in the restroom. She got me to try to guess what it was. I could recognize the glasses but it took a few hints to notice it was the scene.
Carrie drew several animals - a cat then a penguin. It was very exciting when she drew the penguin as it is one of my favorite animals. A goat would of topped it off!
I mentioned Tux and she gave the penguin a tuxedio.
A page of scribbles created by Carrie. Warming up!
gimp logo character drawn. I’m surprised I have not drawn him in the past. There are also notes on the page for the Mandarin that I have been learning. It’s important that I learn new stuff!
A drawing from photo of a man holding up two signs that say: “the left” and “can’t meme”
A cat in color with a landscape in the background. I did most of it but Carrie helped finish it off.
An octopus landscape.
Sadface machine drawing.
A character with short arms.
Drawing over a drawing multi times gives an interesting affect.

I’ve been quite focused on the digital drawing this month. I even took the portable drawing pi to a hackathon. It was neat to show a few people it along with using to draw some portraits and designs for the hacathon project.

Chinh front portrait. A fellow team member in my hackathon project. She focused mostly on the frontend of the project but also designed a really awesome logo for the project. I drew this portrait of her.
A second portrait of Chinh. This one is from the side and there is nothing in the background.

artctrl logo drawing, along with idea generation of freelancer hackathon ideas.
The character on the bottom looks quite anxious/nervous. Lots of stars and characters floating around the scene.
4 Characters
Female character from imagination. Covered in squares that causes a tattoo like look. Dead is backwards.
The character on the left has a hat and a horse behind them.
Chinese character in top left. Land in the background with water coming towards the foreground. One main character floating above the water.
Phill from GCHQ drawing.
The most minimal drawing of the bunch. My Pi ran out of memory with large file so I had to close the file and create a new one. The character on the left has pants with spikes spiraling around them. There is also a cross in the center.
Attended Freelancer Hackathon. My team was quite large - around 8 people. Normally I like to work with smaller groups when I do hackathons. I find between 2 and 4 people to a team works this. This was a piece of artwork that I created for TeamLancer.
TeamLancer hearts. Portrait in the center that has been filled with yellow and blue - the same line that I use for the line.

Portrait of Buffy. I did a hackathon with her. She was meant to attend another with me - was going to use the drawing in the slides.
Drawing frogs.
Brainstorming for Hack4Health hackathon.
The reference was a recent Pepper and Carrot character - a tailor. There are very few male characters in Pepper and Carrot so it’s always good to draw them when I can. I like the mo.
Grayscale painting of tailor from pepper and carrot.
lie detector robot from pepper and carrot. These are becoming standard in airports.
Reference was a Phillfromgvhq artwork. I liked the spikes.
Caveman dreaming of being fat and having elephant to eat. Another from phillfromgchq
Girl nude in bed. Phillfromgchq. The comic has quite a bit of nude. It’s quite the opposite to Petter and Carrot.
Tree and portrait from phillfromgchq

It’s been a busy October! I started Inktober but quickly gave up. I had three Hackathons on this month - Unearthed (which some art is included), NASA Space App Challange, and DigiSparkHackathon (Identity consent). I also took my Pi along to the Ruby meetup so there are a few drawings from that.
LumaSign and China stuff.
I have a English football song playlist on Spotify that I enjoy. This was inspired by that playlist.
Inktober Poisonous prompt. A bottle of poison, acid rain, and poison plants.
Inktober enter prompt with bonus Chinese symbol.
Exit signs brainstorms. Enter vs Exit.
Roastedmeat. Inktober Prompt.
Drawn during the ruby on rails meetup in Sydney.

Portrait of Cathy. Focused just on line artwork with using a range of colors for specific areas of the artwork - similar to how I work with color tonal works.
